Factories and farmlands, power plants, suburbs, highways…and oh yes…some pretty buildings in Prague and a waterfront in Chile.

These are just some of the scenes from around the world that Toni Silber-Delerive captures in her aerial-scape paintings, a handful of which are currently on display at the Chelsea Art Museum in New York City (through September 2nd).

The exhibit is part of the "Open Portfolio" at the museum, which is located at 556 West 22nd Street. A pool of 30 to 40 selected emerging artists from around the globe are featured in the show, which kicked off with a three day salon and interaction with the public last month.

More of this contemporary artist’s works can be seen at the upcoming Affordable Art Fair in September 29-October 3, 2010, at 7 West 34th Street, NYC and also on her website.

Her paintings are not merely snapshots of existing places. In her own words, she tells us she “combines elements of abstraction and representation,” and “examines the relationships between the man-made and the natural, urban and rural, agrarian and industrial and the worlds of power.”

For me, simply seeing her work is like traveling around the world with your eyes wide open.

Painting details: Top right is "Czech Republic Rooftops." Above left is "Farmland." Both are acrylic on canvas.
